A man of adventure since birth, TONE RODRIGUEZ spent
his formative years exploring the wilds of Southern
California. His legendary adventures were cut short one winter
morning by a horrific mountain climbing accident in which several of his fellow
climbers were lost forever in what can only be called the worst case of
stupidity in Magic Kingdom history. Translation: Tone
and his crew once made a daring New Year's Day attempt to scale the northern
face of Space Mountain... Sadly, on this particular
day our heroes found themselves too hung-over to outrun local Anaheim law
enforcement.
For the sake of self preservation Tone has fallen back on
his second love: art. He started with
1999's, VIOLENT MESSIAHS for IMAGE COMICS. A book for which he was
nominated for the Eisner's RUSS MANNING AWARD (that means he didn't win it...)
He followed it up the next year with the sequel, VIOLENT MESSIAHS: LAMENTING
PAIN.
JOHN CARPENTER'S SNAKE PLISSKEN CHRONICLES followed, as
well as a job on the SIMPSONS annual adventure that is the TREE HOUSE OF
HORROR, written by KISS front man GENE SIMMONS. Next up was The COVENANT,
a graphic novel for TOP COW which was developed into a major motion picture by
20th Century FOX.
Tone was the artist behind SHOWTIME'S DEXTER'S popular DARK
DEFENDER. Not only did he design Dexter Morgan's comic book alter ego, he also
appeared along side it in the season 2 episode, "Dark Defender".
Tone's other recent comic book projects include
U.T.F.(UNDEAD TASK FORCE) for APE Ent., as well as URBAN MONSTERS and TYRESE
GIBSON'S MAYHEM! for Image Comics.
Up next for Tone --
drawing more SIMPSONS comics for BONGO and collaborating with BILL MORRISON and
GO-GO'S front-woman JANE WIEDLIN on JANE WIEDLIN's LADY ROBOTIKA. First though,
he is handling art chores on the re-launch of JIM VALENTINO'S SHADOWHAWK,
Image Comics' original back breaker! Written by Dan Wickline, 2010's SHADOWHAWK
RESURRECTION spins out of the pages of the smash hit IMAGE UNITED
mini-series.
